To improve and enhance the lives of Deaf and hard of hearing people and their families.
We will work together as an organisation to build, grow and change, gaining experience and striving always to be better.
BACKGROUND & MISSION STATEMENT
In 1919 the Diocesan Association for the Deaf was formed, led by the then Bishop of Gloucester. It was a welfare association with the aims of providing information and support to those who were deaf.
The Association grew to a point when in 1993 they purchased its present headquarters in Colin Road, Barnwood.
It has been converted to house the GDA team and a community centre, which is available to hire for private use.
The Association today is a voluntary organisation, registered charity and company limited by guarantee. Its goals are contained in the following mission statement:
- To provide high quality services which are appropriate to the needs and wishes of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people and their families living in Gloucestershire.
- To assist Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in gaining equal access to information and services.
- To promote a greater understanding of the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people and their families.
- To encourage a greater participation of users in the services which are provided.
- To work with other organisations, both statutory and voluntary to ensure that good relationships are established and that resources are used in the most effective way to meet the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing people and their families.
- GDA is committed to equal opportunities for all.
